SEQUOIA AND KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARKS
Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon are
home to giants: immense mountains, deep
canyons, and huge trees. Thanks to their huge
elevational range, 1,500' to 14,491', these parks
protect stunningly diverse habitats. The highway
climbs over 5000 feet to awe-inspiring sequoia
groves. From here the trails lead to the high-alpine
wilderness which makes up most of Sequoia and
Kings Canyon parks. Over 200 fascinating caverns
lie beneath the surface. Sequoia and Kings
Canyon are two parks but they share miles of
boundary and they are managed as one park.
Sequoia was the second national park designated
in this country.

TOP WAYS TO SAVE MONEY AT SEQUOIA PARK

1. RENT A CABIN INSTEAD OF A HOTEL ROOM AT
SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK.
Sequoia and Kings Canyon Cabin prices may run
slightly higher than hotel rooms, but over a week’s
stay you’ll save big on meal expenses. A family of
four can easily save $25 or more by eating
breakfast at the cabin and even more at lunch.

2.
BRING ALONG ANOTHER FAMILY TO SPLIT
THE CABIN COST.
Three and four bedroom cabin can be rented for
approximately the same cost as a nice one-
bedroom cabin. Bring along friends or another
family to split the accommodation cost.

3. IF YOU LIKE COLD WEATHER, VISIT
SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK DURING THE LOW SEASON
WHEN RATES ARE MUCH LOWER.  DURING THIS TIME
YOU WILL AVOID THE CROWDS.

4.
CONSIDER RENTING BY OWNER AT SEQUOIA
NATIONAL PARK.
Many vacation rental owners rent by owner,
meaning you’ll save an average of 25%. This is the
normal percentage charged by rental management
companies to “rent” individual cabins. Plus, many
management companies are now tacking on
additional cleaning fees, extra deposits, etc. The
downside to renting by owner is that most do not
accept credit cards and may not be able to
respond quickly to maintenance issues. There are
several reputable websites listing Sequoia and
Kings Canyon vacation rentals for rent by owner,
including www.vrbo.com and www.greatrentals.com.

5. DINE OUT BETWEEN 5 P.M. AND 6 P.M
Many of Sequoia Park's restaurants may offer two-for-one
specials between this time period. Check the local
paper and the free newspapers for special offers
and coupons.

6. FILL UP WITH GAS BEFORE YOU GET TO
SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK - Tourist
destinations historically have some of the highest
gas prices in the nation. Fill up before you get there.

7. EAT OUT FOR LUNCH INSTEAD OF DINNER.
Most restaurants offer lunch specials at half the
price of their dinners. Also be aware the wait to get
into restaurants at night during the busy season can
be quite long.

8. FOR THE BIGGEST SAVINGS ON LODGING
AND DINING, CAMP IN ONE OF THE NATIONAL
PARK CAMPGROUNDS  IN
SEQUOIA OR KINGS
CANYON
. There are five national park
campgrounds in Sequoia National Park and seven in
Kings Canyon.  Cook around the campfire on a grill and
be sure to bring along a camping tent.
