
| SEQUOIA AND KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARKS Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon are home to giants: immense mountains, deep canyons, and huge trees. Thanks to their huge elevational range, 1,500' to 14,491', these parks protect stunningly diverse habitats. The highway climbs over 5000 feet to awe-inspiring sequoia groves. From here the trails lead to the high-alpine wilderness which makes up most of Sequoia and Kings Canyon parks. Over 200 fascinating caverns lie beneath the surface. Sequoia and Kings Canyon are two parks but they share miles of boundary and they are managed as one park. Sequoia was the second national park designated in this country. TOP WAYS TO SAVE MONEY AT SEQUOIA PARK 1. RENT A CABIN INSTEAD OF A HOTEL ROOM AT SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK. Sequoia and Kings Canyon Cabin prices may run slightly higher than hotel rooms, but over a week’s stay you’ll save big on meal expenses. A family of four can easily save $25 or more by eating breakfast at the cabin and even more at lunch. 2. BRING ALONG ANOTHER FAMILY TO SPLIT THE CABIN COST. Three and four bedroom cabin can be rented for approximately the same cost as a nice one- bedroom cabin. Bring along friends or another family to split the accommodation cost. 3. IF YOU LIKE COLD WEATHER, VISIT SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK DURING THE LOW SEASON WHEN RATES ARE MUCH LOWER. DURING THIS TIME YOU WILL AVOID THE CROWDS. 4. CONSIDER RENTING BY OWNER AT SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK. Many vacation rental owners rent by owner, meaning you’ll save an average of 25%. This is the normal percentage charged by rental management companies to “rent” individual cabins. Plus, many management companies are now tacking on additional cleaning fees, extra deposits, etc. The downside to renting by owner is that most do not accept credit cards and may not be able to respond quickly to maintenance issues. There are several reputable websites listing Sequoia and Kings Canyon vacation rentals for rent by owner, including www.vrbo.com and www.greatrentals.com. 5. DINE OUT BETWEEN 5 P.M. AND 6 P.M Many of Sequoia Park's restaurants may offer two-for-one specials between this time period. Check the local paper and the free newspapers for special offers and coupons. 6. FILL UP WITH GAS BEFORE YOU GET TO SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK - Tourist destinations historically have some of the highest gas prices in the nation. Fill up before you get there. 7. EAT OUT FOR LUNCH INSTEAD OF DINNER. Most restaurants offer lunch specials at half the price of their dinners. Also be aware the wait to get into restaurants at night during the busy season can be quite long. 8. FOR THE BIGGEST SAVINGS ON LODGING AND DINING, CAMP IN ONE OF THE NATIONAL PARK CAMPGROUNDS IN SEQUOIA OR KINGS CANYON. There are five national park campgrounds in Sequoia National Park and seven in Kings Canyon. Cook around the campfire on a grill and be sure to bring along a camping tent. |
